About this tool

Federal rule: hours over 40 in a workweek are paid at 1.5 times the regular rate.

California rule: hours over 8 in a day, or over 40 in a week, are paid at 1.5 times; hours over 12 in a day are paid at 2 times; on the seventh consecutive workday the first 8 hours are 1.5 times and anything over 8 is 2 times. Figures are estimates for planning, not tax, legal or financial advice.
